Dear Mr. Hoffmann:
In receipt of your letter dated September 26th, would you please express
to Mr. Schoenberg my deepest appreciation for the signed photograph he
is now forwarding to me. I do hope that Mr. Schoenberg will have time
during his next visit to New York to come to my office at Carnegie Hall
and see this picture in an honored place there.
In my last letter to Mr. Schoenberg, I referred to Psalm #130, but from
your letter dated September 26th, I note that Mr. Schoenberg also sent
me Opus 5850 I am sorry to say that I did not receive this chorus.
I appreciate that Mr. Schoenberg has reserved the rights for a German
publication of his textbooks for me; as soon as the Philosophical
Library
publishes these works I will purchase a copy and forward it to
C. F. Peters, Frankfurt to see what can be done about the translation
and German publication.
I am happy to hear that Mr. Schoenberg agrees to my sending a check of
10 % on the remanining 600 copies of the first printing of the FANTASY,
as soon as the printer delivers these copies. I am surprised that Mr.
Schoenberg wants to point out to me that most contracts offer a higher
percentage after 5,000 and after 10,000 copies are printed. Mr.
Schoenberg should note that it is the tradition of Peters Edition to
give automatic honorariums to composers whenever a composition is
sucessful. In order to prove to Mr. Schoenberg that this tradition is
also kept up by me, it is a pleasure for me to confirm herewith to Mr.
Schoenberg, that I do not want to wait until 5,000 or 10,000 copies of
this FANTASY have been sold, but will automatically grant him a 10 %
increase of the royalty as soon as I sell 2,000 copies of the FANTASY.
Should I be in the position to publish any choral music by Mr. Schoen-
berg
, please advise him that this same policy will apply after I have
sold 5,000 copies of one of these choral numbers.
With my warmest greetings also to Mr. Schoenberg, I remain

Sincerely yours,
